Yes, it has a SCART socket, and I didn't plan on using composite anyway since it's crap in my experience. All of my games are NTSC. And would the picture quality be any better than a 14' Philips set?

The sony trinitrons are usually regarded as the best retro gaming tvs. RGB output is spot on I use a 14' version myself and it is the best TV for interlaced signals, that i have used, period only downside of mine is that it only outputs mono, so i have to link up an audio splitter and stereo speakers make sure you go in to the service menu, when you are confident enough and tweak the geometry to reduce overscan - otherwise you'll lose part of the picture.

Ah, so it's the same issue to which dvdx2 referred? This is the same TV I just picked up the other week. Like someone already pointed out it can't take a NTSC signal that isn't RGB, and the picture does need adjusting. Apart from that it's decent and the picture is sharp. F-Zero on the Gamecube looks mindblowingly sharp on it. If anyone knows how to get into the service menu, do share as I can't find the info online.

I don't want to have a partially non-visible image, since I assume that this is all going to be in the service menu. First, turn off power with the main switch on the front panel. Hold the plus and minus buttons on the front panel and turn on power. Wait for picture, then release the plus and minus buttons. It now shows 'TT' (test mode) on screen.

Once 'TT' isdisplayed, select a number from the remote: The newer Sony televisions use a different procedure to senter service mode: Turn on the main power switch and enter into the stand-by mode. Press the following sequence of buttons on the Remote Control: info/disp (OSD) 5 (Number 5) vol+ (Volume Up) TV -or- [it] [5] (Number 5) [vol+] (Volume Up) [teletext off] -or- On TV: Hard Power On On Remote: Standby Off [i+] [5] [Vol+] Digital TV The television will turn on and 'TT' will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. Other status information will also be displayed.

Press 'MENU' on the remote control to obtain the following menu on the screen: Picture Adjustment Geometry Wide IC Status MSP Current TV status Also you can enter 'TT' mode by opening the little hatch on the front, holding [P+] and [P-] (prog. Button) switching main power on - then pressing menu twice enters the service menu. Move to the corresponding adjustment using the button on the remote. Press the + button to enter the selected adjustment. Turn off the power to quit the service mode or enter 0, 0 (zero twice) when adjustments have been completed.

Centre option did allow me to centre the image (to correct the RGB shift issue), but the top corners are still a bit curved inwards. You'd have to make the picture a bit taller and then stretch it out ever so slightly to compensate (use H.Size and V.Size). If the curvature remains, try adjusting the EW (East-West) pincushion a little. This adjustment makes the screen go inwards: ) ( or bellow outwards: ( ) - set correctly so that vertical lines are as straight as possible: - parabola tilt may help too. It's often better to use a test card when adjusting geometry.

Freeview has a hidden (widescreen) one, which should normally suffice (even with a 4:3 set it can still be useful). More on this here (Only carry out adjustments after leaving the set running for 40+ minutes. This will allow for the component tolerances to settle. When you then go to enter service mode (by turning off and entering the button sequence), wait 5 minutes or so again. Finally, keep away from the other settings, and don't enter any TT codes other than 00 to exit service mode. You'd have to make the picture a bit taller and then stretch it out ever so slightly to compensate (use H.Size and V.Size).

What would that do exactly? To fix the bending corners of the picture, alter the 'pincushion' setting. Would 'Pin amplication' do that?

I have a service sheet for a Sony 32 inch widescreen I used to have. I'm not sure about those abbreviations.

It looks like you might have 4 different pincushion alterations listed together. These type of picture effects are usually down to poor EHT regulation.
